HAWAIIAN ICED TEA

Hawaiian Iced Tea image

I first tasted this tea in a popular Italian restaurant in my college hometown of Kailua. I have been craving it ever since, and have experimented with a few proportions. Add more tea leaves for a stronger tea, but do not steep longer or the tea will end up tasting bitter. (If it does, add a pinch of baking soda.) Always make something to your liking! This is also great to serve at showers.

HAWAIIAN PLANTATION ICED TEA

Provided by CookingONTheSide

Categories     Beverages

Time 10m

Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 quart boiling water (make sure it is only barely boiling)
4 orange pekoe tea bags
1 quart ice cold water
1 (16 ounce) can pineapple juice
1/2 cup simple syrup (optional)
1 fresh pineapple, peeled, cored, and cut into spears

Steps:

  • Pour the barely boiling hot water into a large pitcher, and add the tea bags. Steep the tea 2 to 4 minutes.
  • Remove the tea bags, and pour in the ice water.
  • Pour in the pineapple juice.
  • Refrigerate until thoroughly chilled, about 1 1/2 hours.
  • Pour the tea over ice, garnish with pineapple spears, and serve.

Tips:

  • Choose the right tea. Black tea is the traditional choice for iced tea, but you can also use green tea, white tea, or herbal tea. If you're using black tea, look for a variety that is full-bodied and flavorful, such as Assam or Ceylon.
  • Brew the tea properly. Follow the instructions on the tea package for the correct amount of tea and water to use. For iced tea, you'll need to brew the tea stronger than usual, so use about twice as much tea as you would for hot tea.
  • Let the tea cool completely. Once the tea has brewed, let it cool to room temperature before chilling it. This will help to prevent the tea from becoming bitter.
  • Add flavorings. Once the tea is chilled, you can add flavorings such as sugar, honey, lemon juice, or fruit slices. You can also add herbs such as mint or basil. Be creative and experiment until you find a flavor combination that you enjoy.
  • Serve the tea over ice. When you're ready to serve the tea, fill a glass with ice and pour the tea over it. You can garnish the tea with a slice of lemon or lime, or a sprig of mint.

Conclusion:

Royal Hawaiian iced tea is a refreshing and delicious beverage that is perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make and can be customized to your own taste. So next time you're looking for a cool and refreshing drink, give royal Hawaiian iced tea a try.
