Time 2h15m

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup chopped pecans
1 pound sharp cheddar cheese
1 small onion, grated (see notes)
1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Strawberry preserves

Steps:

  • Toast pecans in a large skillet over medium-high heat until fragrant and slightly browned. Remove pecans from skillet to cool. Set aside a few tablespoons to garnish the cheese ring before serving if desired.
  • Shred cheese then add to a large mixing bowl. Add grated onion, mayo, cayenne pepper and toasted pecans then mix until thoroughly incorporated.
  • Spoon cheese mixture onto a serving plate then shape into a ring. This isn't as hard as it sounds - I easily shape mine using a rubber spatula. Cover with plastic wrap then refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  • Remove cheese ring from refrigerator 30 minutes before serving. When ready to serve, sprinkle reserved pecans on top of ring then spoon strawberry preserves into the center of the ring. Serve with crackers.

Time 15m

Yield 8-10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 lb sharp cheddar cheese, finely grated
1 cup Hellmann's mayonnaise
1 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
fresh ground pepper
1 dash cayenne pepper
1 (12 ounce) jar strawberry preserves
cracker, of your choice (I like whole grain crackers)

Steps:

  • Combine cheese with mayo, chopped nuts and onions.
  • Mix in black pepper and cayenne, and blend thoroughly.
  • Press into a 3-cup ring mold.
  • Refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  • To serve, dip mold into a pan of hot water for 15-20 seconds before turning out onto a serving platter. Fill center with strawberry preserves. Serve with crackers of your choice.

Tips:

  • For a smooth and creamy cheese ring, use a high-quality cream cheese and shredded cheese that melts well, such as cheddar, mozzarella, or Gruyère.
  • To make the cheese ring easier to shape, chill the cream cheese and cheese mixture for at least 30 minutes before assembling.
  • If you don't have a springform pan, you can use a 9-inch pie plate. Just trim the excess dough and fold it under the edges of the pie plate.
  • To prevent the cheese ring from cracking, bake it in a water bath. Place the springform pan inside a larger roasting pan filled with hot water.
  • For a golden brown crust, brush the top of the cheese ring with melted butter or milk before baking.
  • Let the cheese ring cool completely before serving. This will help it to hold its shape and make it easier to slice.

Conclusion:

Rosalynn Carter's Plains, Georgia Cheese Ring is a delicious and elegant dish that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With its creamy center and flaky crust, this cheese ring is sure to be a hit with your family and friends. .
