Categories     Sauce

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 cup ketchup
½ cup brown sugar
¼ cup apple cider vinegar
1 chipotle pepper in adobo sauce
1 teaspoon adobo sauce
2 Tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon black pepper

Steps:

  • Make the sauce. Combine all ingredients for Honey Chipotle BBQ Sauce in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Bring sauce to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 25 minutes. Want a little more heat? Add a second chipotle pepper to the sauce before simmering.
  • Puree. Remove sauce from heat and allow to cool. Carefully pour sauce into a blender and puree until smooth.
  • Rest, use, and store. Store in an airtight glass container in the refrigerator overnight before using for best results. This rest time allows the flavors to blend together and the acidity of the vinegar to mellow. If you do want to use the sauce immediately, you may want to add an additional teaspoon of honey to balance the vinegar.

Tips:

  • Choose the right root beer: Not all root beers are created equal. For this recipe, you'll want to use a root beer that has a strong, bold flavor. Some good options include A&W Root Beer, Barq's Root Beer, and Virgil's Root Beer.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different spices: The chipotle peppers in this recipe give it a nice smoky flavor, but you can easily adjust the heat level by adding more or less peppers. You can also add other spices, such as cumin, coriander, or paprika, to taste.
  • Let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes: This will help the flavors to develop and deepen. The longer you simmer the sauce, the better it will taste.
  • Use the sauce on your favorite grilled or roasted meats: This sauce is perfect for chicken, pork, or beef. You can also use it on vegetables or as a dipping sauce for appetizers.

This root beer chipotle barbecue sauce is a delicious and unique way to add flavor to your favorite grilled or roasted meats. It's easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. So next time you're looking for a new barbecue sauce, give this recipe a try!
