ORANGE ROMAINE SALAD

With this salad, spinach or another dark-green leaf lettuce works as well as the romaine. The oil and vinegar can be replaced by an oil-based honey French dressing or a honey mustard or poppy seed dressing.-Nanci Keatley, Salem, Oregon

Tips:

  • Choose the right romaine lettuce: Look for romaine lettuce hearts that are firm and crisp, with no signs of wilting or bruising.
  • Toast the pecans: Toasting the pecans will bring out their nutty flavor and make them more fragrant. You can toast them in a dry skillet over medium heat for 5-7 minutes, or in a preheated oven at 350°F for 10-12 minutes.
  • Use a good quality orange juice: Freshly squeezed orange juice is best, but you can also use a high-quality store-bought orange juice. Avoid using orange juice concentrate, as it will be too sweet.
  • Don't overdress the salad: A little bit of dressing goes a long way. Add just enough dressing to coat the salad lightly, and toss to combine.
  • Serve the salad immediately: This salad is best served immediately after it is made, as the dressing can wilt the lettuce if it sits for too long.

Conclusion:

This romaine pecan orange salad is a delicious and refreshing salad that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With its combination of sweet oranges, crunchy pecans, and tangy dressing, this salad is sure to be a hit at your next gathering.
