AUTUMN SALAD WITH APPLES AND CANDIED WALNUTS

Autumn Salad With Apples and Candied Walnuts image

I got this recipe from and friend and it is my favorite salad. I like to use a lot more sugar than the recipe calls for - About 2-3 tablespoons, but I'll leave the recipe as written and you can sweeten to taste. I also like to use pecans in place of the walnuts.

Tips:

  • To achieve the perfect balance of flavors, use a variety of apples with different textures and sweetness levels. Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Gala are all great options.
  • Make sure to slice the apples thinly and evenly so that they cook evenly. If you have a mandoline, it's a great tool for this job.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan when roasting the apples. Give them plenty of space so that they can caramelize properly.
  • Watch the apples closely while they're roasting. They can go from perfectly caramelized to burnt very quickly.
  • If you don't have candied walnuts, you can easily make your own. Simply toss walnut halves with some melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Then, spread them out on a baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes, or until they're golden brown.
  • This salad is best served immediately after it's made. However, you can also make it ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.

This roasted apple and candied walnut salad is a delicious and healthy side dish that's perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make and can be customized to your liking. So next time you're looking for a fresh and flavorful salad, give this one a try!
