Tips:

  • Use high-quality chocolate: The better the chocolate, the better the hot chocolate will be. Look for chocolate with a cocoa content of at least 70%.
  • Don't use unsweetened chocolate: Unsweetened chocolate is too bitter for hot chocolate. Use semisweet or bittersweet chocolate instead.
  • Add spices to taste: Spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger can add a nice flavor to hot chocolate. Experiment until you find a combination that you like.
  • Make it ahead of time: Hot chocolate can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. When you're ready to serve, simply reheat it over low heat until warmed through.
  • Serve with toppings: Hot chocolate is delicious on its own, but it's even better with toppings like whipped cream, marshmallows, or chocolate chips.
