Categories     Sandwiches

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 9

12 oz beer
4 bratwurst links
2 tsp vegetable oil
1 small onion, chopped
1/4 c bell pepper, chopped
1 c sauerkraut, drained
2 Tbsp thousand island dressing
4 rye bratwurst buns, split
2 slice swiss cheese, halved

Steps:

  • 1. Heat beer to boiling in 10-inch skillet.
  • 2. Add bratwurst; reduce heat. Cover and simmer 15 minutes; drain.
  • 3. Meanwhile, heat oil in 6-inch skillet until hot.
  • 4. Cook onion and bell pepper in oil, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are crisp-tender.
  • 5. Stir in sauerkraut; keep warm.
  • 6. Cover and gill bratwurst 4-6-inches from medium coals 5-10 minutes, turning once, until brown.
  • 7. Top with cheese; let stand 1-2 minutes or until cheese is melted.
  • 8. To serve, spread dressing on cut sides or buns.
  • 9. Top with bratwurst and sauerkraut mixture.

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality bratwursts: Look for bratwursts made with fresh, high-quality pork and seasonings. Avoid brats that are overly processed or contain artificial ingredients.
  • Use a variety of toppings: The classic Reuben sandwich is made with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and Russian dressing. However, you can also get creative with your toppings. Try using different types of sauerkraut, such as red or kimchi sauerkraut. You can also use different types of cheese, such as cheddar or provolone. And, if you don't have Russian dressing on hand, you can make your own by mixing mayonnaise, ketchup, and horseradish.
  • Cook the bratwursts until they are cooked through: Bratwursts should be cooked to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit. You can cook them on the grill, in a skillet, or in the oven.
  • Serve the bratwursts immediately: Reuben brats are best served hot off the grill or out of the oven. Top them with your favorite toppings and enjoy!

Conclusion:

Reuben brats are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for any occasion. They are packed with flavor and can be customized to your liking. So next time you are looking for a quick and tasty meal, give Reuben brats a try. You won't be disappointed!
