Provided by Chef Buggsy Mate

Categories     Potato

Time 40m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 1/2 lbs red potatoes, quartered
3 -4 garlic cloves, peeled
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup nonfat milk, warmed
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated

Steps:

  • Place potatoes and garlic in a large pot and cover with water.
  • Bring to a boil then cover and reduce heat.
  • Simmer for 20-25 minutes or until the potatoes are tender.
  • Drain well, then return potatoes to the pot.
  • Add the butter, milk and salt and mash well. Stir in Parmesan cheese.

Tips:

  • Choose the right potatoes: Yukon Gold potatoes are recommended for their creamy texture and buttery flavor.
  • Cook the potatoes properly: Boil the potatoes in salted water until they are tender but not mushy. Drain them well and return them to the pot over low heat to dry out any excess moisture.
  • Use a potato ricer or masher: A potato ricer will give you the smoothest, creamiest mashed potatoes. If you don't have a ricer, a potato masher will work fine.
  • Add butter and milk gradually: Start with a small amount of butter and milk and add more as needed until you reach the desired consistency. Be careful not to overmix, or the potatoes will become gluey.
  • Season to taste: Add salt, pepper, and other seasonings to taste. You can also add herbs, cheese, or other ingredients to create different flavor variations.

Conclusion:

Red jacket mashed potatoes are a delicious and versatile side dish that can be enjoyed with a variety of meals. They are easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With a few simple tips, you can make perfect red jacket mashed potatoes every time.
