- Combine sugar and cornstarch.
- Stir well.
- Add sugar mixture to boiling water.
- Reduce heat to medium, stirring constantly or until mixture thickens.
- Remove from heat.
- Add butter, vanilla, and salt.
- Stir until butter melts.
