Yield 10 people

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 container frozen whipped topping
1/2 can sweetened condensed milk
1 pint sweetened frozen strawberries (thawed)
1 T vinegar
1 angelfood cake
12 ladyfingers
jam (optional)
brandy, rum, or similar (optional)
strawberries or other berry of choice (optional)
slivered almonds or other crushed nuts (optional)

Steps:

  • Mix whipped topping, condensed milk, thawed strawberries and vinegar, in that order. Refrigerate for at least 10 minutes. Stand the ladyfingers vertically and flat against the wall of the trifle bowl so that they create a ring-shaped fence. Rip up half of the cake into large bite-sized pieces and press the pieces inside the ring of ladyfingers, creating a layer of cake at the bottom of the bowl. (Optional) Wet fingers with booze and press the cake, repeatedly until the cake is slightly damp. If using jam, spread a thin layer of jam on top of the cake. If using berries, sprinkle a layer on the cake. Pour half of the whipped topping mixture into the bowl. Add another layer of ripped-up angelfood cake (softened with booze, if desired). Add a jam layer if desired. Add the rest of the whipped topping mixture. Garnish the top with berries and/or crushed/slivered nuts.
