Sweet Banana-Carob Shake image

I invented this one morning when I was just dying to combine these ingredients... worked very well, I must say. It's best if you give it 1/2 hour or so in the freezer so it gets more like ice cream than a thick drink.

Time 25m

Yield 2 cups, 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 medium bananas, frozen
1 cup cold vanilla-flavored soymilk or 1 cup plain soymilk
1 tablespoon carob powder, sifted
4 soft dates (I used Parnoosh dates)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, to taste

Steps:

  • If dates have been refrigerated, warm them a bit in the microwave, to make softer and easier to blend.
  • Slice the frozen bananas, this helps out your blender :-).
  • Combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender, and blend till very smooth (you'll have visible flecks of date skin but who cares).
  • Pour into 2 mugs and let them sit in the freezer for 20-60 minutes.
  • Enjoy your freezy treat!

I'm not sure what I did wrong, but my shake turned out really watery. I think I'll try again with less almond milk next time.

This shake was a bit bland for my taste. I think I'll add a bit of honey or maple syrup next time.

I'm not a big fan of bananas, but I loved this shake! The carob powder and almond milk really helped to balance out the banana flavor.

This shake is a great way to use up ripe bananas. I always have a few bananas that are about to go bad, so I'm always looking for new recipes to use them up in.

This shake was a bit too thick for my taste. I think I'll add a bit more almond milk next time.

This shake was delicious! I'm not a big fan of carob powder, but I couldn't taste it at all in this shake. The banana and almond milk flavors were much more prominent.

This shake was a bit too sweet for my taste, but I think that's because I used ripe bananas. Next time, I'll try using less ripe bananas or adding a bit of unsweetened almond milk.

This shake was a hit with my family! The sweetness from the bananas and carob powder was just right, and the almond milk gave it a creamy texture. We'll definitely be making this again.
