Spicy Turkey Sloppy Joes image

This is adapted from a recipe I found in the local newspaper. It's adapted to fit my low-sodium requirements and spiced up to add flavor!

Categories     Turkey

Number Of Ingredients 14

3-4 Tbsp olive oil
1 large yellow onion, diced
1 1/2 lb ground turkey
1 tsp black pepper
1 Tbsp minced garlic
1-2 tsp prepared horseradish
1 c no salt added ketchup
1 can(s) tomato paste, small
1/4 c mustard (spicy or specialty, preferred)
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (or more, if you like)
1/8 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (or more, if you like)
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp red wine vinegar
burger or slider buns

Steps:

  • 1. In a large skillet, sauté onion and garlic in olive oil, about 3-4 minutes. Add ground turkey and black pepper. Cook for 7-8 minutes, breaking up turkey into small pieces.
  • 2. Add ketchup, tomato paste, mustard, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes, brown sugar, and horseradish, mixing well. Reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes.
  • 3. Add red wine vinegar. Serve on burger or slider buns. Makes enough for about four full-size sandwiches or eight sliders.

I wouldn't recommend this recipe. The sloppy joes were bland and the sauce was too sweet.

These sloppy joes were just okay. They weren't bad, but they weren't anything special either.

I found that the sloppy joes were a bit dry. I would recommend adding more sauce or using a wetter type of bread.

These sloppy joes were a little too spicy for me, but my husband loved them. I would recommend using less chili powder if you don't like spicy food.

These sloppy joes are a great way to use up leftover turkey. They're also a great meal for a weeknight dinner.

The sauce for these sloppy joes is amazing! It's the perfect balance of sweet, sour, and spicy.

These sloppy joes are so easy to make and they're always a crowd-pleaser. I love that I can use ground turkey instead of beef, it makes them a little healthier.

I'm not usually a fan of sloppy joes, but these were really good! The turkey was moist and tender, and the sauce was perfectly seasoned.

These turkey sloppy joes were a hit with my family! The sauce was flavorful and not too spicy, and the ground turkey was a healthier alternative to traditional beef.
