Spicy Black-eyed Peas image

I tweaked this recipe from Paula Deen's! Delicious.....:-))) P.S. You may want to soak peas overnight to promote faster cooking.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 lb smoked turkey necks or smoked hamhocks
16 oz black-eyed peas
1 medium onion
1 can(s) 16 oz diced tomatoes with chili or jalapeno peppers
1 tsp seasoning salt
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp salt and pepper
1 tsp minced garlic

Steps:

  • 1. Prepare smoked turkey necks, smoked hamhocks by cooking in water until tender.
  • 2. Saute medium onion and garlic until tender. Add in other spices and seasonings.
  • 3. Add onion and spices to meat, stir thoroughly.
  • 4. Add in black-eyed peas to mixture, cover with enough water.
  • 5. Last, add in can of diced tomatoes with peppers. Cook for 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until peas are tender. Add more water as needed. Enjoy with rice if desired!
