Yield Makes 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 1 1/4-pound top sirloin steak, about 1 inch thick
3 tablespoons olive oil
4 large garlic cloves, thinly sliced
3/4 pound plum tomatoes, seeded, diced
1 cup chopped fresh cilantro leaves

Steps:

  • Rub cumin and chili powder onto both sides of steak, then sprinkle with salt and pepper. Heat 2 tablespoons oil in heavy large skillet over medium-high heat. Add steak to skillet and sauté until cooked to desired doneness, about 4 minutes per side for medium-rare. Transfer steak to plate. Add remaining 1 tablespoon oil to skillet. Add garlic and stir 1 minute. Add tomatoes and cilantro. Cook until tomatoes begin to soften, about 4 minutes. Season sauce with salt and pepper.
  • Cut steak crosswise into thin slices. Arrange slices on platter. Mix any steak juices into sauce. Spoon sauce over steak.

This dish is a great way to use up leftover steak. I had some grilled steak from the previous night, and it worked perfectly in this recipe.

This is the best steak recipe I've ever tried. The meat was cooked to perfection, and the sauce was incredibly flavorful. I'll definitely be making this again soon.

I accidentally used canned tomatoes instead of fresh ones. The sauce was still tasty, but I'm sure it would have been even better with fresh tomatoes.

The sauce is a bit too runny for my taste. Next time, I'll thicken it with a cornstarch slurry.

I'm not a huge fan of cilantro, so I omitted it from the sauce. It still turned out great, with a nice balance of flavors.

The steak was a bit tough, but the sauce more than made up for it. I'll definitely try this recipe again, making sure to tenderize the steak properly.

I substituted sirloin steak with flank steak, and it turned out just as amazing. The cooking time was slightly shorter, but the result was equally delicious.
