Scones image

I make these with whatever fresh fruit is in season. Blueberries are a favorite. Also may use raisins, chopped dates, or dried chopped apricots.

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 c flour
1/3 c sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 c crisco
1/4 c butter or marg.
2 eggs, beaten
2/3 c sour milk/buttermilk
1 c fruit

Steps:

  • 1. Cut shortening into dry ingredients.
  • 2. Add eggs and sour milk to make a soft dough. Stir in fruit.
  • 3. If using a 9x9 pan grease that and put dough in and bake at 375 degrees for 20-30 minutes.
  • 4. For individual scones turn dough out onto lightly floured surface and pat into a 9 inch circle about an inch or so thick, then cut with a sharp knife into 12 pie shaped pieces. Place on greased sheet and bake at 375 degrees for 20-30 minutes.
