Time 40m

Yield 12 brownies

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 cups sugar
Food coloring
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 cup semisweet or white chocolate chips or a combination of both
1 clear glass quart jar with a tight fitting lid
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted and cooled, plus more for greasing pan
4 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Steps:

  • To color the sugar: Divide the sugar into 4 (1/2-cup) portions. Put 1/2 cup sugar into the jar and add 1 to 3 drops of food coloring. Put the lid on and shake the jar well until the sugar is completely colored. Empty the sugar into a small bowl and continue with the remaining sugar using different food colorings to make different colors.
  • To make the Sand Art: Whisk together the flour and salt and set aside. Layer the dry ingredients into the jar, alternating colors (the sugar) and dark (cocoa powder) and light (flour), making your own design. Don't forget the chips! Screw on the lid and print out this recipe to enclose with your gift jar.
  • To bake: Heat the oven to 325 degrees F. Grease a 13 by 9-inch pan with butter.
  • Dump the contents of the jar into a large bowl. Mix together the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla. Stir the wet and dry ingredients together until well combined. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes.

These brownies were a disappointment. They were dry and crumbly, and the sand art design was a mess. I wouldn't recommend this recipe.

Overall, I thought these brownies were pretty good. They were easy to make and they tasted good. I would definitely make them again.

I had a little trouble getting the sand art design to stick to the brownies. I think I used too much butter in the mixture. Next time I'll use less butter and see if that helps.

These brownies are a bit too sweet for my taste, but I think that's just a personal preference. I would recommend using less sugar if you don't like your brownies too sweet.

These brownies are a great make-ahead dessert. I made them the day before my party and they were still fresh and delicious the next day.

These brownies are so easy to make, even a beginner baker can handle them. I'm not the best baker, but I was able to make these brownies without any problems.

I'm not a big fan of frosting, so I was happy to find a brownie recipe that didn't require any. These brownies are still plenty sweet and chocolatey, even without frosting.

These brownies are a great way to use up leftover graham cracker crumbs. I always have a bag of crumbs in my pantry, so it's nice to have a recipe that uses them up.
