Steps:
- 1. Run the grapefruit slice around the rim of an old-fashioned glass (or a rocks glass), to moisten the rim. Then dip rim of glass in coarse salt. Add crushed ice to glass, being careful not to shake any salt off the rim.
- 2. Add gin (or vodka) and grapefruit juice to a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously for several seconds, then pour over ice into salt-rimmed glass.
- 3. Garnish with grapefruit wedge, and serve immediately.
