Pot Roast with Creamy Gravy image

Another oldie but goodie. I've seen some similar ones here but not exactly like it. I specified using a crock pot but you can also cook it in a dutch oven in the oven. Hubby always insists on mashed potatoes and English peas with this and pours the gravy over everything.

Time 9h5m

Number Of Ingredients 5

3 or 4 lb beef roast, whatever you like, i use what's on sale
1 pkg (1 envelope) onion soup mix
1 can(s) cream of mushroom soup
1 can(s) french onion soup
pepper to taste, no salt!!!!

Steps:

  • 1. Place the roast in the crock pot.
  • 2. Mix the rest of the ingredients and pour over the roast. Don't add salt as the soups are all salty.
  • 3. Cook on high one hour then reduce to low for 8 hours.
  • 4. It should be fork tender with a nice creamy gravy to ladle over it when served.

This recipe seems like it would be good, but I'm not sure I have all the ingredients. I don't have any Worcestershire sauce.

I'm confused by the instructions. It says to cook the roast on low for 8-10 hours, but then it says to bring it to a boil. Which is it?

This recipe is missing some important information. It doesn't say what size pot to use, or how long to cook the roast.

I followed the recipe exactly, but my pot roast turned out dry and overcooked. I'm not sure what went wrong.

This pot roast was a disappointment. The meat was tough and dry, and the gravy was bland. I won't be making this recipe again.
