Categories     Pasta

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 pound penne
1/4 cup olive oil
3 large garlic cloves, crushed
1 1/2 pounds broccoli rabe, florets and tender stems only
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup pasta water
1/2 pound cooked sweet Italian sausage, crumbled or chopped
2 teaspoons unsalted butter
1/2 cup freshly grated Grana Padano, or Parmigiano Reggiano

Steps:

  • Cook the penne in a large pot of boiling salted water until al dente. Drain well. Meanwhile, in a large deep skillet, heat the oil. Add the garlic and sausage removed from casings and cook over moderately high heat until garlic golden and sausage no longer pink. Add the broccoli rabe, crushed red pepper and salt; cover and steam for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in the pasta water, sausage and butter and cook over high heat until the sauce reduces slightly, about 3 minutes. Add the penne to the skillet and toss gently. Sprinkle half of the cheese on top and toss again. Serve immediately, sprinkled with the remaining cheese.

This was my first time cooking with broccoli rabe, and I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious it was. The sausage added a nice richness to the dish. I'll definitely be making this again!

This recipe is a bit too bland for my taste. I'll try adding some more spices next time.

I followed the recipe exactly, but my dish didn't turn out as good as the picture. Maybe I'm just a bad cook.

This recipe was a disaster! The broccoli rabe was bitter, and the sausage was overcooked. I won't be making this again.

I'm not a big fan of sausage, so I used ground beef instead. Turned out great!

The broccoli rabe was a bit too tough. Maybe I should've cooked it longer.

My sausage was too salty. Other than that, great recipe.

This recipe looked amazing, but the broccoli rabe had a weird taste. The sausage was great though! I'll try making it again with a different vegetable.

I've made this recipe several times now, and it's always a favorite. The sauce is so flavorful, and the broccoli rabe adds a nice touch of bitterness.
