Number Of Ingredients 11

2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon grated orange peel
3 tablespoons milk
Additional sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Sift 2 cups flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda and 1/4 teaspoon salt into medium bowl. I'm not much of a baker, but these cookies were surprisingly easy to make. The dough came together quickly and easily, and the cookies baked up perfectly in the oven.

I was a bit skeptical at first because I've tried other sugar cookie recipes that turned out too dry or bland. But these cookies exceeded my expectations! They're so moist and flavorful, with just the right amount of sweetness.

These cookies brought back so many childhood memories! They have the perfect balance of sweetness and crunch. I especially love how the edges get nice and crispy while the centers stay soft and chewy.
