Oatmeal Bread image

This is a great Amish bread recipe. Hope you all enjoy it as much as we do :)

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 c boiling water
3 Tbsp shortening (we use peanut oil)
2/3 c brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 pkg or 2 t. yeast
1/3 c warm water
5 c flour
1 c oatmeal

Steps:

  • 1. Bring first 4 ingredients to a boil. Add oatmeal. Cool until lukewarm, then add yeast that has been dissolved in 1/3 cup water. Add flour and knead will. Let rise until doubled. Form into loaves or dinner rolls. Sprikle oats on top. Let rise again and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until browned nicely. Brush with butter.
