Time 50m

Yield 32

Number Of Ingredients 5

4 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups oat bran
1 tablespoon baking powder
ΒΌ teaspoon salt
2 cups boiling water

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, stir together the flour, oat bran, baking powder and salt. Gradually stir in boiling water. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, then cover and let rest for 10 minutes.
  • Divide the dough into 32 golf ball sized portions, and roll each one into a ball. Flatten each ball using a rolling pin or tortilla press to about 4 inches in diameter and stack them up to keep from drying out.
  • Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat until hot. Roll out one tortilla at a time until paper thin or as large as your skillet. Cook over medium heat until bubbles form on the top. Turn over and cook on the other side until starting to brown. Stack cooked tortillas while making the others, taking care not to over cook, or you will end up with crackers.

I'm not sure what I did wrong, but my tortillas turned out really crumbly.

I was really excited to try these tortillas, but they were a bit disappointing. They were too thick and dense for my liking.

These tortillas were a bit too dry for my taste. I think I'll add a little more water next time.

I'm not a big fan of oat bran, but these tortillas were surprisingly good. They were soft and chewy, and they held up well to my favorite fillings.

These oat bran tortillas are a great healthy alternative to regular tortillas. They're high in fiber and they have a nutty flavor.

I love how easy these tortillas are to make. I just threw all the ingredients in my blender and pulsed until they were combined. Then I cooked them on a hot griddle for a few minutes per side.
