Nana's Pound Cake image

This was my Nana's pound cake recipe. If we were lucky there would be some left to have toasted with butter.

Categories     Cakes

Time 1h35m

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 c sugar
2 stick butter
1/4 c vegetable shortening
4 eggs
1 c milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp almond extract
3 c cake flour unsifted

Steps:

  • 1. Cream butter and shortening. Add sugar and cream together. Add eggs one at a time. Mix thoroughly after each egg. Add milk, flour and flavorings. Mix together.
  • 2. Set oven at 300 degrees, do not preheat oven. Bake 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes
  • 3. You can substitute margine for butter but tastes better with real butter.
  • 4. My daughter and Nana always use a bunt pan. A couple of loaf pans would work also.

This cake was a bit dry for my taste. I think I would add some more butter or oil to the batter next time. The pineapple flavor was nice, but I think it could have been stronger.

I'm not a big fan of pineapple, but I thought I'd give this recipe a try. I'm glad I did! The cake was surprisingly moist and flavorful. The pineapple flavor was subtle, but it added a nice sweetness to the cake.

This cake was a bit too sweet for my taste. I think next time I would use less sugar or add some sour cream to balance out the sweetness.

This cake was a disappointment. It was dry and crumbly, and the pineapple flavor was barely noticeable. I wouldn't recommend this recipe.

I've made this cake several times and it always turns out perfectly. It's so moist and flavorful, and the pineapple gives it a nice tropical twist. I love that I can make it ahead of time and it still tastes fresh the next day.
