Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 c crisco shortening
1 c sugar
3/4 c molasses ( i used grandmas original )
2 large eggs
1 c cold water
4 c all purpose flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla extract

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream crisco shortening and sugar. Add molasses and eggs. Mix well. Then add water and vanilla and mix.
  • 2. Add dry ingredients, flour, soda, salt, ginger, and cinnamon. Mix well until all is blended together. Drop by tablespoon full onto greased cookie sheet or line your pan with parchment paper for easy cleanup. (I used a small ice cream scoop to drop my mixture). Bake for 9 minutes. Do not overbake. Ovens vary and I have a new oven and it took 9 minutes. You may want to check at 7 minutes if you do smaller cookies. Let cool and frost.
  • 3. This is a creamy mixture and makes a lot of cookies. These cookies freeze very well.
  • 4. For frosting.....I just used 1 stick of butter, 3 cups of powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of milk. Mix well and frost your cooled cookies.

I'm not a big fan of molasses cookies, but these were actually pretty good. They were soft and chewy, with a nice molasses flavor.

These cookies were a bit dry. I think I'll try adding some more butter next time.

I found these cookies to be a bit too sweet for my taste. I think I'll try reducing the amount of sugar next time.

These cookies are a delightful treat, with a perfect balance of sweetness and spice. The molasses adds a rich, deep flavor that is complemented by the warm notes of cinnamon and ginger.
