This custard type pie is tart & sweet all at the same time. It's lemony flavor mixes with the apple sauce in your mouth. It's very different, But Yum!

Time 50m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 9inch single plain pastry shell, unbaked
1 c granulated sugar
2 tsp all purpose flour
1/8 tsp salt
3 large eggs yolks, lightly beaten
2 c applesauce
2 tsp finely grated lemon zest
3 Tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
4 Tbsp butter, melted

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat your oven to 450. In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, flour, and salt. Gradually add beaten egg yolks and applesauce, mixing well.
  • 2. Add zest, juice and melted butter, stirring until combined. Spread evenly into pie shell. Bake 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 300. Bake 20 minutes or until firm. Remove from oven.
  • 3. Cool 3 hours on a wire rack before serving. Tastes good with some whipped cream on top. I can't compare this pie to any I have had, but it sure is good!

This pie was a disappointment. The crust was tough and the filling was bland. I won't be making this again.

I'm not a huge fan of apple pie, but this one was really good. The crust was flaky and the filling was sweet and tart. I would definitely recommend this recipe.

I've tried this recipe a few times and I can never seem to get the crust right. It always turns out too thick and doughy. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

This pie was a little too sweet for my taste, but my kids loved it. The crust was also a bit too thick, but overall it was a good pie.
