Ice cubes
2 ounces whiskey, bourbon or rye
1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
2 to 3 dashes bitters, optional
Maraschino cherry

Steps:

  • Fill a shaker three-fourths full with ice. Add the whiskey, vermouth and bitters if desired; cover and shake until condensation forms on outside of shaker, 20-30 seconds. Strain into a coupe or cocktail glass or an ice-filled rocks glass. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.
