When I came across this recipe around Thanksgiving time, I tried it on the family and it was an instant hit. People may know this as a Kentucky Derby Pie, But that name is copyrighted and can't be publicly used.

Time 1h5m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/2 c flour
1 c sugar
2 large eggs, beaten
1/2 c butter, melted
2 Tbsp kentucky bourbon
1 c pecans, chopped (or walnuts)
1 1/4 c bittersweet chocolate chips
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 pinch salt
1 ready-made pie crust

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and press pie crust into a pie pan.
  • 2. Combine flour and sugar in a mixing bowl. Add the eggs and melted butter; mix to combine. Stir in the bourbon, pecans (or walnuts), chocolate chips, vanilla and salt. Pour the mixture into the unbaked pie crust. Bake for 45 minutes to an hour (depending on pie size). Let cool before slicing.
  • 3. This recipe makes 1 small pie. If you would like to make a larger pie, I make 91/2 inch deep dish pies, then double up on the ingrediants and bake for the full hour!

I love the flavor of this pie, but I found the crust to be a bit too thick. Next time, I'll try using a pre-made crust.

The only thing I would change about this recipe is to use a little less sugar. I found it to be a bit too sweet for my taste.
