Italian Shepherd's Pie image

For a stick-to-your-ribs main dish that's deliciously different, give this pie a try! The Italian sausage goes so well with mashed potatoes, and both get a new twist served in a crust and cut into wedges. My family is always glad to see me preparing this dish. -Cindy Gage, Blair, Nebraska

I'm not a fan of Italian food, but I really enjoyed this dish. The polenta was creamy and the meat sauce was flavorful. I will definitely be making this again.

This dish was a bit too salty for my taste. I think I'll use less salt next time.

This recipe was a bit too bland for my taste. I added some extra garlic and Italian seasoning to the meat sauce and it was much better.

I love this recipe because it's so versatile. You can use any type of ground meat or sausage that you like, and you can adjust the vegetables to your liking. I also like to add a bit of red wine to the sauce for extra flavor.

I've made this recipe several times and it's always a crowd-pleaser. The creamy polenta and flavorful meat sauce are a perfect combination. I like to top it with freshly grated Parmesan cheese before serving.
