Hush Puppies image

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 c cornmeal
1/2 c all purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp garlic salt
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c minced onion
1 green onion with top, chopped
1 egg, beaten
1 c milk
vegetable oil

Steps:

  • 1. Combine first 5 ingredients in a mixing bowl.
  • 2. Add remaining ingredients; stir well.
  • 3. Let batter stand 5 minutes.
  • 4. Carefully drop batter by level tablespoonfuls into deep hot oil (370 degrees); cook only a few at a time, turning once.
  • 5. Fry 3 to 5 minutes or until hush puppies are golden brown.
  • 6. Drain well on paper towels.
  • 7. Yield: about 2 dozen.
