Hot Dog Spiders! (on the grill or boiled) image

We make these for Halloween... but tonight the kids asked for them instead of plain hot dogs... It only takes seconds to do them... so I was able to take a couple photos too.... My friend Kimi Gaines pointed out the fact that they look like her Octopus hot dogs! So consider making them either way!!!! lol... Thanks for the idea...

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 7

SPIDERS
4 skinless hot dogs
water to cover
SPIDER EYES AND MOUTH (FOR EACH HOT DOG SPIDER)
2 dots of ketsup for eyes
2 tiny dots of mustard for eyes
1 dot of mustard for mouth

Steps:

  • 1. Cut each hot dog in thirds or fouths almost to center (leaving the center inch of hot dog in tact). Roll hot dog over and cut in thirds or fouths in the same manor as the first cuts.
  • 2. Turn the hot dog to work with the opposite end. Cut it as you did the first side.
  • 3. Place hot dogs in pan of boiling water until the hot dogs are heated through. **** If making these on the outdoor grill... watch carefully so they don't get too blackened...) Making these on the grill is my favorite way to do them! The flavors pop and so does the creepyness of the spiders! **** Remove one hot dog at a time, pat the "face" area with a paper towel. Add two dots of ketsup for eyes, add two tiny dots of mustard for center of eyes. Add a dot of mustard for mouth.
  • 4. Serve as is... and have buns available for those who want them.
  • 5. *** This is a Halloween recipe.... but... let the kids have this on a boring day to cheer them up...!!!

I'm not sure why they're called hot dog spiders, but they're definitely delicious.

I'm not a fan of spiders, but these hot dog spiders are actually pretty good. The cheese and bacon really make them.

I love the idea of these hot dog spiders, but I think I would have liked them better if the cheese had been melted.

These hot dog spiders were a bit too greasy for my taste. I think I'll try baking them next time.

I'm not a big fan of hot dogs, but these hot dog spiders were surprisingly good. The cheese and bacon really took them to the next level.

These hot dog spiders were a fun and easy way to get my kids to eat their veggies. They loved the silly shape and they didn't even notice the hidden veggies.

I love how versatile this recipe is. You can use any type of hot dog or sausage, and you can add different toppings to suit your taste.

I tried this recipe for the first time last weekend and it was a total disaster! The hot dogs didn't cook evenly and the cheese was all over the place. I'll stick to my regular hot dog recipe.
