The spices and apples in this spiced cider will make your entire house smell of the holidays. The clove and cinnamon, mixed with the warm cider, is the perfect combination on a cool, crisp day. Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 gal apple cider
1 apple sliced in rounds
1 orange sliced in rounds
3 cinnamon sticks
3 whole cloves
1/4 c sugar (optional)
1/4 c Captain Morgan's spiced rum (optional)

Steps:

  • 1. Pour cider into a stove top pot. Turn stove on to medium.
  • 2. Add sliced apple and oranges, cinnamon sticks, clove and optional ingredients.
  • 3. Simmer for 10 minutes to get flavors to start releasing and blending.
  • 4. Turn down and keep warm. This will keep on your stove for 2-3 hours if not kept on high of heat.
  • 5. When adding the spiced rum, I only add enough to flavor the batch just a little. You can add more to your individual cups if you want.

This recipe is a great base for experimenting with different flavors. I've tried adding different spices, fruits, and even a little bit of honey. It's always delicious.

I love making this cider in the fall when apples are in season. It's a great way to use up all those extra apples.

The cider was a bit too sweet for my taste, but it was easy to adjust the sweetness by adding less sugar.
