Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place and mix together all dry ingredients (except baking soda) in a large bowl. This includes the chopped nuts, raisins and figs. Soften the butter or melt in a small sauce pan. Beat the eggs in a small bowl. Mix the baking soda with the hot water and pour into the large bowl along with the butter and eggs. Mix thoroughly. Note: the dough is very dry at first. Normally, I first mix it with a strong spoon and then switch to using my hands. Roll to about 1/4" thickness and cut with a cookie cutter or a medium drinking glass. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 - 14 minutes. Do not over back.
