Yield 64 Cookies

Number Of Ingredients 12

7 cups flour (all purpose)
3 cups sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
2 teaspoons nutmeg
2 teaspoons ground clove
12 each figs, chopped
2 cups raisins, chopped
4 ounces walnuts, chopped
4 each eggs
1.5 cups butter or margarine
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 tablespoons hot water

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place and mix together all dry ingredients (except baking soda) in a large bowl. This includes the chopped nuts, raisins and figs. Soften the butter or melt in a small sauce pan. Beat the eggs in a small bowl. Mix the baking soda with the hot water and pour into the large bowl along with the butter and eggs. Mix thoroughly. Note: the dough is very dry at first. Normally, I first mix it with a strong spoon and then switch to using my hands. Roll to about 1/4" thickness and cut with a cookie cutter or a medium drinking glass. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 - 14 minutes. Do not over back.
