Hawaiian Belly Buster Burgers image

These burgers are among my family's top choices of gourmet burgers that I've concocted. A rich barbecue flavor followed by a sweet aftertaste makes for one flavorful burger. Use a Hawaiian-style thick barbecue sauce if possible. If your sauce is thin, use less in the burger mix so the burgers hold together when grilling.

Time 1h15m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 11

3 pounds ground beef
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 yellow onion, minced
½ cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
1 ¼ cups barbeque sauce
8 slices bacon
1 pound Cheddar cheese, sliced
¼ cup butter
8 Kaiser rolls, split
8 pineapple slices
1 (6 ounce) can French-fried onions

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, garlic, onions, Monterey Jack cheese, and the barbecue sauce. Form ground beef mixture into 8 patties.
  • Wrap a slice of uncooked bacon around each patty, covering as much of the patty as possible. Place patties on a large platter, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 45 minutes.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat and lightly oil grate.
  • Grill burgers on one side for 5 to 7 minutes, turn, and top each with a slice of Cheddar cheese. Butter the kaiser rolls, if desired. During the final few minutes of cooking, place the kaiser rolls split side down on the grill along with the pineapple slices.
  • To assemble your burger, place some French-fried onions on the bottom half of the roll, then a slice of pineapple and a burger; top with the other half of the roll.

These burgers were a bit too sweet for my taste, but my kids loved them. I think next time I'll use less pineapple or add some heat with a spicy sauce.

These burgers were just okay. The pineapple was a bit too tart for my taste and the teriyaki sauce was a bit too sweet. I think I'll try a different recipe next time.

I love the idea of these burgers, but I found the teriyaki sauce to be a bit too overpowering. Next time I'll use a milder sauce or make my own.

These burgers were a bit dry, even though I followed the recipe exactly. I think next time I'll add some more moisture to the patties, maybe with some Worcestershire sauce or egg.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed these burgers. I'm not usually a fan of pineapple on burgers, but the teriyaki sauce really brings everything together. Will definitely make these again.
