Hamburger Chowmein Hotdish image

Easy to prepare casserole topped with a crunchy coating of chow mein noodles. A Family Favorite Comfort Meal.

1 1/2 lb hamburger
2 c celery chopped
1 onion chopped
1 can(s) bean sprouts, drained
1 can(s) sliced water chestnuts, drained
2 can(s) cream of mushroom soup
3 c long grain rice, cooked
4 Tbsp soy sauce
2 Tbsp molasses, optional
salt and pepper to taste
chow mein noodles, for garnish

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350° F. Greased 2 quart casserole dish
  • 2. Cook rice according to directions on package.
  • 3. In a heavy skillet, brown ground beef with onions and celery, and then in a prepared casserole dish, mix together cooked rice, browned ground beef mixture, canned soups, canned sprouts, canned water chestnuts, soy sauce and molasses.
  • 4. Cover the dish and bake 30 minutes. Uncover and add chow mein noodles. Bake an additional 15 minutes.
