We like to use this basic recipe when we have a crowd over for a barbecue. It will make 8 child-sized and 4 adult-sized burgers.

Provided by Vicki Butts (lazyme)

Categories     Burgers

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 1/2 lb ground beef
1/2 c purchased barbecue sauce
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
12 hamburger buns, lightly toasted
1 c cheddar cheese, shredded

Steps:

  • 1. Mix together ground beef, barbecue sauce, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
  • 2. Shape half of meat mixture into eight 1/2-inch-thick patties.
  • 3. Shape remaining meat mixture into four 1-inch-thick patties. (Can be made 8 hours ahead. Cover and chill.)
  • 4. Prepare grill (medium high heat).
  • 5. Grill patties to desired doneness, about 4 minutes per side for medium-rare for 1/2-inch thick patties and about 6 minutes per side for medium-rare 1-inch thick patties.
  • 6. Top with cheese the last minute of cooking.
  • 7. Place burgers on bottom halves of buns and top with lettuce and tomatoes and anything else that you like. Cover with top bun.

These burgers were delicious! The cheddar cheese was melted and gooey, and the beef was cooked to perfection. I will definitely be making these again.

These burgers were a bit too greasy for my taste. I think I would drain the beef more thoroughly next time.

Not bad, but not great either.

These burgers were a bit too dry for my taste. I think I would add some more moisture next time, perhaps by using a different type of cheese or adding some sauce.
