Granny's Chicken Casserole image

I was given this recipe by my "Granny." It is requested often whenever any of the family stops by for a visit! It is also easily adjusted according to your family's preferences, and can be changed based on what's available in your pantry.

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup celery, chopped
1/2 cup onion, diced
1/2 cup bell pepper, diced
4 -5 cups chopped cooked chicken
6 slices white bread, cubed (we prefer wheat bread)
1 cup milk
1/2 cup mayonnaise
10 1/2 ounces cream of mushroom soup (I use Specialty Soup Substitutes - Cream)
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
salt, to taste
pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • Melt butter in a large skillet. Add celery, onion, and bell pepper; saute' until softened.
  • Combine with remaining ingredients, mixing well. Add salt and pepper, to taste.
  • Dump into 13x9" dish. Top with additional cheese, if desired.
  • Bake at 350* for 35-45 minutes.
