Grammy's Ham and Cheese Roll-ups image

These are a family and friends favorite! Whether you are going to a picnic, office party, entertaining your kid's friends or hosting a football party, these tasty treats are always a hit! I'm giving our family bread recipe that we mix up in our KitchenAid mixers, but you can always substitute Rhodes frozen bread if you prefer. ...

2 loaves rhodes bread dough, thawed and risen or *bread recipe as follows
1/8 c dried minced onion, rehydrated w/2t. hot water
1/4 c butter, melted and seasoned w/ 1 t. garlic salt
1 c ham, minced fine
1 c cheddar cheese, shredded fine

Steps:

  • 1. Roll dough out on a floured surface in a 16x12 rectangle. Spread melted, seasoned butter on top. Sprinkle with onion, ham and cheddar. Roll lengthwise, jellyroll style, pinching ends to hold together. Slice or *string cut into 1 inch sections and place 1/2 inch apart on a greased 9x13 pan. Cover and let rise 30 minutes. Bake at 400 degrees 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  • 2. *Grammy's Bread Recipe In a KitchenAid mixing bowl combine: 1/2 C. powdered milk 1/2 C. sugar 1/2 C. vegetable oil 1/2 T. salt 1 pkg. or 3/4 T. rapid rise yeast 1-1/2 C. warm water 2 C. flour With bread hook attachment, mix all ingredients, slowly adding up to 2 more cups of flour. From start to finish you mixing time should be exactly 7 minutes. Dough should be wiping clean from side of bowl at the end of 7 minutes. Cover w/ a damp towel and let rise in a warm place until double. Continue with recipe.
  • 3. *String cut Take about a foot of regular sewing string and slide under jelly roll about 1 inch deep. Take sides of string up on both sides and cross over on top. Cross string and pull together "cutting" into 1 inch slices.
