Fried Apples and Onions image

My great grandmother used to serve onions and apples with pork quite often. This is as close as I could get to hers, but she usually used an iron skillet.

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 large onions, sliced
2 Tbsp butter, melted
6 large cooking apples, unpeeled and sliced
1/2 c brown sugar, firmly packed
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp paprika
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • 1. Saute the onions in melted butter in a large saucepan over medium heat until tender.
  • 2. Place the apple slices on top of the onions. Combine the brown sugar and the remaining ingredients. Sprinkle over the apple slices. Cover and simmer for 12 to 14 minutes.
  • 3. Uncover and simmer an additional 5 minutes or until the apple slices are tender. Serve with a slotted spoon.
