Fragola Pazzo (Crazy Strawberry) image

This is an Italian dessert that goes great with pasta. As the name suggests, it's a crazy combination but surprisingly excellent. Someone always asks me for the recipe when I make it. Be sure to use a good quality balsamic vinegar with this dish or you will not have as good results.

¼ cup balsamic vinegar
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 pints fresh strawberries, hulled and quartered
1 (1 ounce) square unsweetened chocolate, grated, or to taste

Steps:

  • Mix balsamic vinegar, sugar, and black pepper together in a bowl. Add strawberries and stir to coat; marinate in refrigerator until chilled, about 10 minutes. Grate chocolate over top as a garnish.

This recipe is a great way to use up leftover strawberries. I always have a few strawberries left over after making a smoothie or a pie, and this is the perfect way to use them up.

I'm not a big fan of strawberries, but I actually really enjoyed this recipe. The balsamic vinegar and basil really balance out the sweetness of the strawberries.
