Number Of Ingredients 12

2 cups cornmeal
1/2 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg, well beaten
1 cup buttermilk
1/3 cup finely chopped onion (optional)
1/4 cup water
cooking oil

Steps:

  • Combine corn meal, flour, sugar, baking powder, soda, and salt.
  • Combine egg, buttermilk, onion and water. C.
  • ombine mixtures and stir until just moistened.
  • In a skillet or "Fry Daddy" pour in oil until a depth of 3 inches or to markings on "Fry Daddy". Heat oil to 375'F.
  • Drop batter by tablespoons into hot oil. Fry until golden brown.
  • Quantity varies according to size.
