Easy Stove-Top Cheese Grits image

This is a tasty recipe I made on the spur-of-the-moment, not realising that most cheese grits recipes are baked. These are also delicious with goat cheese in place of the cream cheese.

Time 8m

Yield 4 cups, 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 cup reduced-sodium fat-free chicken broth
2 cups water
1 cup milk (I used fat-free, it worked fine)
1 cup quick-cooking grits
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 ounces reduced-fat cream cheese
1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1 teaspoon hot sauce
1/2 teaspoon seasoning salt

Steps:

  • Combine chicken broth, water, and milk in large saucepan. Bring to a boil. Add grits and salt, stir, cover, and reduce to a simmer. Cook five minutes. (For thicker grits, cook slightly longer.).
  • Remove from heat and stir in cream cheese, cheddar, hot sauce, and seasoned salt.
  • Serve warm.

I'm not sure what I did wrong, but my cheese grits were a disaster. They were lumpy and bland. I think I might have added too much milk.

I thought these cheese grits were just okay. They were a little bland for my taste. I think I would have liked them better if I had added some more salt and pepper.

Not bad! I'm not a huge fan of grits, but these were pretty good. I liked the creamy texture and the cheesy flavor. I think I would have liked them even better if I had used a different type of cheese, like pepper jack or mozzarella.

I've never made cheese grits before, but this recipe was so simple to follow. I was worried they would be too bland, but they were actually really delicious! I used sharp cheddar cheese, and I think that made all the difference.

These cheese grits were incredibly easy to make and turned out so creamy and flavorful. I added a little extra cheese and some diced jalapenos, and they were the perfect comfort food on a cold night.
