Another family favorite, I used to make this a lot for my kids too. Creative use of Oreo cookies to make this vanilla pudding based 'cake' look like dirt. This is a kids favorite too I think!

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 7

8 oz cream cheese, softened
16 oz whipped topping, thawed
2 pkg vanilla instant pudding (large size)
3 c milk
1 c confectioners' sugar
1 pkg oreo cookies (or eqivalent)
gummy worms/bugs (optional)

Steps:

  • 1. Crush cookies in ziploc bag using a rolling pin until 'dirt' consistency.
  • 2. Mix together cream cheese, pudding mixes, milk, and whipped topping until well blended.
  • 3. Slowly stir in confectioners sugar.
  • 4. Alternate layers of cookie crumbs and filling mixture in a 9X13 cake pan, finishing with cookie crumbs on the top. Garnish with gummy worms, candy bugs, or other dirt themed items. Or you can just leave it without the extra garnishes if you prefer.
  • 5. Cover and refrigerate for about an hour or until ready to serve.

This dirt cake was a bit too sweet for my taste, but it was still a fun and easy dessert to make. I think I would have liked it better if I had used a less sweet pudding.

This dirt cake was just okay. It was easy to make, but it didn't have a lot of flavor. I think I would have liked it better if I had used a different type of pudding.
