Steps:
- 1. Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and milk; combine well.
- 2. Sift together the dry ingredients (except oats); add gradually to wet ingredients, mixing well. Add oats, nuts and dates; mix well again.
- 3. Drop onto a cookie sheet and bake 15 to 20 minutes at 350 degrees.
