Found this recipe at Recipelion.com and tweaked it just a bit to suit my tastes. I LOVE German cooking, partly because I am half German and also because my mother raised me on sauerkraut. Photo source: easteuropeanfood.about.com

2 can(s) bavarian-style sauerkraut, undrained
2 lb polska kielbasa, precooked and cut into 3-inch pieces
1 medium onion, thinly sliced and separated into rings
1 tsp chicken bouillon granules
1/4 tsp celery seed
1/2 tsp caraway seeds
1/2 tsp dry mustard

Steps:

  • 1. In the bottom of a slow cooker, layer 1 can sauerkraut, 1 pound sausage pieces, half the onion slices, 1/2 tsp. bouillon, and half the spices. Repeat layers.
  • 2. Cover and cook on low setting for 7 to 9 hours, or on high for 3 to 4 hours.
  • 3. Serve with a green salad and a dish of spiced apples.
