Number Of Ingredients 10

1 (14 ounce) package firm tofu
2 tablespoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 cup lime juice
1 tablespoon olive oil
5 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 teaspoons chili powder
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
salt and black pepper to taste

Steps:

  • - Place the block of tofu onto a plate and place another plate on top. Set a 3 to 5 pound weight on top (a container filled with water works well). Press the tofu for 20 to 30 minutes, then drain off and discard the accumulated liquid. - In the meantime, boil about 3 cups of water. - Slice the tofu into 1" cubes. Place them in a casserole pan. Sprinkle with garlic powder and salt. Pour boiling water over the tofu and soak 10-15 minutes. - Throw together the lime juice, olive oil, cilantro, garlic, chili powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper in a large plastic bag. Seal after removing as much air as possible. Marinate tofu in the refrigerator for 2 hours or overnight. - Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat, and lightly oil the grate. Grill the tofu until almost blackened in spots, about 7 to 12 minutes. - Use remaining marinade as a sauce for the cooked tofu. Brushing occasionally with the marinade,

I'm not sure what went wrong, but my tofu didn't turn out as expected. It was a bit dry and bland.

The tofu was a bit bland for my taste, but the marinade helped a lot. I would probably add some extra spices next time.
