Time 1h

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 16

1 lb beef stew meat, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 lb ground beef
2 medium onions, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
3 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
2 tablespoons chili powder
2 tablespoons hot sauce (I use homemade)
2 teaspoons cumin
1 teaspoon cayenne
1 (15 ounce) can dark red kidney beans
1 (15 ounce) can cannellini beans (could use 2 cans of kidney)
1 (12 ounce) bottle dark beer
2 -4 Hershey chocolate kisses
1 -3 habanero pepper, roasted, skinned, seeded (adjust for preference)

Steps:

  • In a Dutch oven, cook the stew meat, ground beef, onions and garlic in the olive oil til the beef is cooked, then drain. Return mixture to Dutch oven and add the rest of the ingredients and cook over low heat until mixture is thoroughly heated, the consistency is where you like it, and the flavors blend.

This chili is a bit bland for my taste. I'm going to add more spices next time.

I'm not a big fan of chili, but this one was actually pretty good. The flavors were well-balanced and the meat was tender.

This chili is a great way to use up leftover meat. I used some leftover chicken and it turned out great.

This chili was a bit too spicy for me, but my husband loved it. I'll probably use less cayenne pepper next time.
