Time 1h25m

Yield 24

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 teaspoon maple flavor
1 egg
1 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup sliced almonds
1 cup powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon maple flavor
4 to 5 teaspoons milk

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F (if using dark or nonstick pan, heat oven to 325°F). Lightly grease bottom and sides of 13x9-inch pan with shortening or spray with cooking spray.
  • In large bowl, beat brown sugar, butter, maple flavor and egg with electric mixer on medium speed, or mix with spoon. Stir in flour, baking soda, salt and 1/2 cup of the almonds. Pat dough in pan with lightly floured fingers.
  • Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely, about 45 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, in small bowl, stir all Maple Icing ingredients until smooth and thin enough to drizzle. Drizzle cooled bars with Maple Icing; sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup almonds. Let stand 5 minutes or until set. For bars, cut into 6 rows by 4 rows.

I'm not sure what I did wrong, but my bars turned out really dense and dry. I'm going to try again with a different recipe.

These were a bit too dry for my taste. I think I'll try adding a little more butter next time.

I'm not a huge fan of maple, but I really enjoyed these bars. The glaze was the perfect balance of sweet and tangy.

I followed the recipe exactly but my bars didn't turn out as chewy as I expected. They were still good, but not quite what I was hoping for.

These were a bit too sweet for my taste, but otherwise they were very good. I think I'll try using less sugar next time.

The recipe was easy to follow and the bars turned out great! The only thing I would change is to add a little more maple flavor to the glaze.
