1 cup butter
1/4 cup sugar
2 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sliced maraschino cherry (well drained)
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon almond extract
1/4 cup maraschino cherry (halved for cookie tops)

Steps:

  • Cream the butter and the sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add flour and salt - blend well.
  • Add almond extract, cherries and nuts.
  • Shape dough into small balls.
  • Place on ungreased cookie sheets about 1 inch apart.
  • Top with cherry halves.
  • Bake 300 degrees 20 -25 minutes.
  • Remove from sheets and roll in confectioners sugar while still hot.
  • Let cool on racks.
  • Roll in sugar again (optional).
