Time 30m

Yield 5

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 pound lean ground beef
1 1/2 cups hot water
2 cups milk
1 package Hamburger Helper™ cheeseburger macaroni
5 cups slightly crushed tortilla chips
1 1/4 cups Old El Paso™ salsa (any variety)
2/3 cup sour cream
Sliced ripe olives, if desired
Green onion, sliced, if desired

Steps:

  • Cook beef in 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until brown; drain.
  • Stir in hot water, milk, uncooked pasta and sauce mix (from Hamburger Helper box). Heat to boiling, stirring occasionally.
  • Reduce heat; cover and simmer about 12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender. Remove from heat and uncover (sauce will thicken as it stands).

I'm allergic to tomatoes, so I substituted salsa with tomato sauce. The cheeseburger mexicana still turned out great!

This recipe was a disaster. The cheeseburger mexicana was dry and overcooked. I won't be making this again.

The cheeseburger mexicana was a little too spicy for my taste, but my husband loved it. I'll probably cut back on the chili powder next time.
