Yield 8 slices

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 & 1/2 cup Half & Half
6 large Eggs
1 teaspoon Orange zest
1 tablespoon Grand Marnier
2 tablespoons Honey (warmed slightly)
1/2 teaspoon Vanilla
1/2 teaspoon Salt
One day-old challah (sliced 3/4 inch - roughly eight slices)
Unsalted butter
Vegetable oil
To serve:
Cinnamon
Powdered Sugar
Maple Syrup

Steps:

  • Whisk together the half-and-half, eggs, orange zest, grand marnier, honey, vanilla, and salt. You may do this the night before. When ready to cook, pour custard mixture into a pie pan and set aside. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Dip bread into mixture, allow to soak for 30 seconds on each side, and then remove to a cooling rack that is sitting in a sheet pan, and allow to sit for 1 to 2 minutes. Over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter and 1 tablespoon of oil in a large saute pan. Add the soaked bread and cook until golden brown, approximately 2 to 3 minutes per side. Remove from pan and place on rack in oven for 5 minutes. Repeat with remaining slices. Using a sieve/sifter, apply powdered sugar and cinnamon to preference. Serve immediately with maple syrup.

This challah French toast was a disaster! The bread was so thick that it didn't cook all the way through. The custard was also too runny, and it made the French toast soggy. I ended up throwing the whole thing away.

I thought this challah French toast was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. The bread was a bit too dry for my taste, and the custard was a bit too runny. I think I would have preferred it if the French toast had been cooked a littl

This challah French toast was a bit too sweet for my taste. I think I would have preferred it with less sugar in the custard. Other than that, it was a good recipe. The French toast was light and fluffy, and the custard was creamy and rich.
